Principles of Radiation Protection for Engineers

As part of our expanding radiation safety training product, we have identified a need to develop a specific training course for Engineers working on nuclear plant or plant where a radiological hazard may exist.

These Engineers are often required to undergo basic radiological training to meet the requirements of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999. This course meets the requirement for core knowledge (regulation 14), but because it assumes the delegate has a good basic knowledge of physics, we are able to train in more detail on matters relevant to engineers working in the nuclear industry.

Our experience shows that engineers can greatly benefit from additional training on shielding, half value layers and dose rates, containment, knowledge on different radionuclides, dose control and the legal requirement for a critical examination for new installations where there are associated radiological protection implications.
