Nuclear Reactions

This one day basic course introduces the delegate to the concept of nuclear reactions and fission. It covers basic atomic structure, and will progress throughout the day to cover types of neutron reactions and how these are instrumental in the operation of nuclear reactors. The course also covers the different types of reactors and awareness of how a nuclear reactor works.

The course starts with covering the basic properties of ionising radiation and then moves on to look at nuclear power and the concepts behind it. It covers the concepts of fission, chain reactions and fuel in nuclear reactors. The course also covers neutron interactions, neutron energies and the neutron life cycle.

Other topics covered are activation products, types of nuclear reactors, fuel after its useful life and reprocessing, using practical examples where possible.

This course provides an excellent introduction to nuclear power and the scientific concepts behind it. It is an invaluable course for any new graduate starting work in the nuclear industry.
