Do I need radiation safety training?

Radiation Safety Training

There are lots of reasons why you would need radiation safety training, for example, to comply with legislation or emergency planning.

Click here for our guide around the legislation which will help you identify your training needs.

So why do I need training?

The Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 (IRR99) may require you by law to receive radiation protection training.

Your training needs depend on the role being carried out. If you'd like to talk to someone about your training needs, click here for an RPA to contact you.

You may need radiation training if you are starting work in an area where you may be exposed to ionising radiation; the essential course for all those in this category is the basic radiation protection course.

Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPS) are appointed by an employer to help secure compliance with the regulations. The RPS plays a crucial role in helping to ensure compliance with the arrangements made by the radiation employer. The role of the RPS can vary greatly depending on the nature of the business that they are in, the size of the business and the nature of work undertaken.

One of the legal requirements of an RPS is that they demonstrate sufficient training to be able to appreciate and understand the significance of working safely and legally with ionising radiation. Our two day RPS course (link here to the course details) will provide all the training needed for an RPS to meet their minimum legal requirement in respect of training.
