Employers' Duties Under IRR99

 

 

All employers have responsibilities with regards to certain parts of Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 (IRR99).

Some of the issues you need to consider are:

  • Restriction of exposure
  • Dose Limitation
  • Suitable training
  • Co-operation between employers
  • Designation of Classified Persons
  • Dose assesment and recording, along with medical surveillance
  • Radioactive Substances Act 1993 registration and authorisation
  • Transport legislation

As a Radiation Employer what are my duties?

You will need to appoint a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) to advise you how to comply with IRR99.

Every radiation employer has a legal duty to appoint an RPA for the purpose of securing compliance with the regulations.

So what else do I need to do, apart from apppointing an RPA?

There are many things you need to consider if you are working with radiation. Your RPA will guide you through the relevant parts of the legislation, however some of the issues you need to consider are:
